How to Clean Your Email List in Klaviyo

Klaviyo pricing and deliverability both get worse when stale profiles pile up. Here is a simple workflow for cleaning a Klaviyo list before your next send.

Klaviyo lists get expensive and messy at the same time.

If inactive or invalid profiles keep piling up, you are not just paying for extra audience size. You are also giving future campaigns a weaker starting point.

Step 1: export the segment you want to clean

Start with a CSV export from Klaviyo.

You can export:

  • a full list
  • a specific segment
  • older low-engagement profiles
  • recently imported contacts that need review

Step 2: upload the CSV to MailCull

Use Verify List to scan the file and review the email addresses before the next campaign.

MailCull checks for:

  • syntax issues
  • typo domains
  • disposable providers
  • domains that do not appear configured to receive mail

Step 3: review the results

The practical workflow is usually:

  • remove undeliverable
  • review risky
  • keep deliverable

This is also a good time to decide whether some older segments should be suppressed or retired even if the addresses are technically fine.

Step 4: import or suppress strategically

Once you have the cleaned file, you can either:

  • import the healthier segment back into your working flow
  • suppress the obviously bad addresses
  • use the results to exclude risky or stale audiences from high-stakes sends

Why this matters in Klaviyo

For ecommerce brands, the big win is not just list size reduction. It is sending to a more trustworthy audience before seasonal campaigns, launches, and automations.

Better hygiene means:

  • fewer avoidable bounces
  • cleaner reporting
  • more confidence in the audience you are paying to message
